Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar himself declared that the Hindu Code Bill is more important than the Constitution. The Hindu Code Bill was to provide a 'definite, uniform and comprehensible' law for the whole country. Overall, the Hindu Code Bill was an important step towards social change, but it was strongly opposed by the orthodox community. The then Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru also rejected the 'Hindu Code Bill'. Then Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar resigned from his post as Law Minister. Further this bill was passed step by step and women got their rights but even today women don't seem to know about the Hindu Code Bill.
