Abstract

The school in hospital (SiHo) is created to simultaneously implement two constitutionally recognized rights: that of health and that of education. It is an integral part of the child care process, because educational support, alongside health treatment, contributes to the implementation of an intervention aimed at the subject in his/her entirety, looking at his or her well-being. During the pandemic, hospital school sections were also severely affected, making intervention even more difficult. In fact, they are already normally faced with very different realities, due to the variability of the reasons for admission and the length of stay, the age of the patients, their origin and their experiences. Taking into account this multi-faceted reality and the complications due to the health emergency, in 2020 the Andrea Bocelli Foundation launched the Digital Lab pilot project at the Gaslini Hospital in Genoa, which - still in the development and diffusion phase - was rapidly implemented in other Italian paediatric hospitals in the following months. In this article we present an educational experience across age groups, carried out by two preschool teachers, in which through the use of digital technologies and animation techniques, such as stop-motion, an inclusive educational environment was created, offering continuity to the life experience of hospitalised children and young people, and creating the conditions for their involvement in time beyond the terms of hospitalisation.
