A New Method to Measure the High-energy Reactor Antineutrinos at Daya Bay

Abstract

This poster will report the first measurement on the reactor antineutrinos with energy above 10 MeV from the Daya Bay experiment. The antineutrinos were generated from six commercial nuclear reactors, each with a thermal power of 2.9 GW and were observed by eight identical-design antineutrino detectors deployed in two near and one far underground experimental halls. A multivariant analysis is applied to statistically distinguish 2500 signal events in nearly 9000 inverse beta-decay candidates collected within 1958 days of operation. With this new method, the hypothesis of no reactor antineutrinos of energy above 10 MeV can be rejected with a high significance. For the first time, the Daya Bay experiment is able to directly measure the energy distribution of reactor antineutrinos above 10 MeV which can serve as a reference for the other experiments and theoretical calculations.
