For more than half a century, transparent scintillator liquids have been used to detect low-energy neutrinos. However, a new technology has recently emerged to revolutionize this paradigm. LiquidO is a novel detector concept that makes use of an opaque liquid scintillator that confines light close to its point of creation by a short scattering length, and collects this light by a dense grid of wavelength shifting fibers. In this way, LiquidO enables highly efficient particle identification with the consequent event-by-event topological discrimination power, including positron, electron and gamma events. With the potential background rejection capability and the possibility of loading dopants at high concentrations, since transparency is no longer required, LiquidO opens up the possibility of a large number of new physics measurements in many areas of high-energy, nuclear, medical, and accelerator physics, many of which are under active exploration. In this poster we will introduce LiquidO's capabilities and we will present the first results from the “mini-LiquidO” prototype detector, whose main goal is the demonstration and precise performance quantification of the LiquidO technique for physics application.
