Abstract

815. Yunnan Hadromys Hadromys yunnanensis French: Rat du Yunnan / German: Yunnan-Starkratte / Spanish: Rata de Yunnan Other common names: Yunnan Bush Rat Taxonomy. Hadromys humei yunnanensis Yang Guangrong & Wang Yingxiang, 1987, Hulan (24°09’ N, 97°51” E), 1300 m, Ruili County, western Yunnan, China. On the basis of morphological differences, G. B. Corbet and J. E. Hill in1992 suggested that H. yunnanensis was a valid species,an opinion followed by G. G.Musser and M. D. Carleton in 2005. Monotypic. Distribution. W Yunnan, S China. Descriptive notes. Head-body 123-136 mm, tail 114-132 mm, ear 14-15 mm, hindfoot 22-24 mm; weight 41-77 g. The Yunnan Hadromys is a small murid, characterized by having bicolored tail shorter than head-body length, soft and dense fur, and slender hindfeet. Dorsum is dark gray brown, sprinkled with black, yellow, or white hair; venter is pure white. Females have four pairs of mammae. Habitat. Found at elevations of 970-1300 m; no further details about habitat preferences are available. Food and Feeding. No information. Breeding. No information. Activity patterns. The Yunnan Hadromys is terrestrial and probably nocturnal. Movements, Home range and Social organization. No information. Status and Conservation. Classified as Data Deficient on The IUCN Red List. The Yunnan Hadromys seems to be rare, and its natural history and conservation threats need to be studied. Bibliography.
