Abstract

571. Koford’s Grass Mouse Akodon kofordi French: Akodon de Koford / German: Koford-Graslandmaus / Spanish: Ratén campestre de Koford Other common names: Koford's Akodont Taxonomy. Akodon kofordi Myers & Patton, 1989, “Agualani, 9 km N by road Limbani, Depto. Puno, Peru, elevation 2840 m.” This species is monotypic. Distribution. E Andean slopes from SE Peru to CW Bolivia. Descriptive notes. Head-body 96 mm, tail 78 mm, ear 15 mm, hindfoot 22-5 mm. No specific data are available for body weight. Koford’s Grass Mouse is a moderately large species of Akodon. Dorsum is dark olivaceous brown; tail is unicolored; and hindfeet are covered with banded hairs. Chromosomal complement is 2n = 40, FN = 40. Habitat. Elfin forest and Puna at elevations of 1800-3700 m. Koford’s Grass Mouse occupies moist bunchgrass, disturbed shrubby areas, and forest including Alnus (Betulaceae) cloud forest and Polylepis (Rosaceae) woodlands. Food and Feeding. No information.
