Abstract This paper discusses the opportunities and challenges of applying block chain technologies in the education sector. The key block chain-in-education applications discussed within two main areas: using block chain technology to automate the components of the educational process, namely: certificate verification, smart learning, for fixing, storing and using learning outcomes and the 2nd direction is connected with the addition of disciplines dedicated to the block chain in the educational process. Some of the key challenges explored are advantages of block chain technology implementation and perspectives of introducing technology in education system
