Recent century-high temperature extremes and early onset of summer across South Asia have reduced wheat yields, highlighting serious real-time impacts of climate change on agriculture production. Instability in global wheat markets because of the Ukraine war and Covid-19 related disruptions highlight interconnected food system instabilities. Urgent action is required to monitor and mitigate temperature effects on staple crop productivity and systematically assess and address the rural and farming community health impacts of extremes.
