Bulbophyllum spathulatum Seidenf., Bot. Tidsskr.

Abstract

Bulbophyllum spathulatum (Rolfe ex E.W.Cooper) Seidenf., Bot. Tidsskr. 65: 347, 1970 Basionym: Cirrhopetalum spathulatum Rolfe ex E.W.Cooper, Orchid Rev. 37: 106, 1929. Heterotypic synonyms: Rhytionanthos bootanense Garay, Hamer & Siegerist, Nord. J . Bot. 14: 639, 1994. Bulbophyllum bootanense C.S.P.Parish & Rchb. f., Trans. Linn. Soc. London 30: 153, 1874. Type:— MYANMAR. Mon State: Mawlamyine District, Parish 293 (holotype: K). Specimen examined:— SHAN. Unspecified: fide Aung et al. (2020: 67). MON. Mawlamyine District: type. Distribution:— The eastern Himalayas, northeastern India, southern Myanmar, Thailand, Indochina and southwestern China. Notes:— Rhytionanthos bootanense is a validly published name since the protologue refers to a previous Latin description and the authors indicate a type. It is erroneously published as a ‘ comb. nov.’ rather than ‘ sp. nov.’. If it is accepted as different from B. spathulatum, then a new name is needed in Bulbophyllum. Bulbophyllum stenobulbon C.S.P.Parish & Rchb. f., Trans. Linn. Soc. London 30: 153, 1874. Type:— MYANMAR. Tenasserim: Parish 319 (holotype: K; isotype: W) Homotypic synonym: Phyllorkis stenobulbon (C.S.P.Parish & Rchb.f.) Kuntze, Revis. Gen. Pl. 2: 678, 1891. Specimens examined:— KACHIN. Putao District: fide Aung et al. (2020: 67). TENASSERIM. Type; same loc., Helfer s.n., Kew Distr. 5166 (K, P no flowers). TANINTHARYI. Dawei District: 220 m, 24 Mar 2012, Saw Lwin et al. TNRO 18 (SING, SING [s]). Reported from Mon State by Kress et al. (2003: 67), but we have not seen any material from this area. Distribution:— The eastern Himalayas, northeastern India, southern Myanmar, Thailand, Indochina and southwestern and southern China. Bulbophyllum sterile (Lam.) Suresh in D.H. Nicolson, C.R. Suresh & K.S. Manilal, Interpr. Van Rheede’s Hort. Malab.: 298, 1988 Basionym: Epidendrum sterile Lam., Encycl. 1: 189, 1783. Specimens examined:— BORDER AREA NAY PYI TAW – SHAN (Taunggyi District); MON. Unspecified (both fide Aung et al. 2020: 67). Distribution:— Nepal, India, Bangladesh and Myanmar.
