INTERVENÇÃO FISIOTERAPÊUTICA NA SÍNDROME DE RETT: UMA REVISÃO INTEGRATIVA

Abstract

ABSTRACT Introduction: Rett syndrome (RS) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that mainly affects female children regardless of their racial and ethnic groups. Divided into four stages, RS causes a process of functional decline in these patients, resulting in performance limitations of daily activities. Physiotherapeutic intervention is extremely important, as it works with the objective of recovering functional capacity of these people. Objective: Present the importance of physical therapy intervention in children with Rett syndrome. Methods: This is an integrative review, with research in the following databases: Embase, LILACS, PEDro, Pubmed and SciELO. The inclusion criteria used were original articles and systematic reviews that addressed physical therapy interventions in children with Rett syndrome, in Portuguese and English, available in full and free of charge, without year limit of publication. Conference proceedings, monographs, dissertations, theses, articles which the population studied were adolescents or adults, narrative, integrative and literature reviews, and duplicate articles were excluded. Results: 542 articles were found, of which, after analysis, 6 articles were selected following the established inclusion and exclusion criteria. Conclusion: Physiotherapeutic interventions positively impacted social interaction, quality of life, and a considerably longer lifespan in children with Rett Syndrome, considering that such approaches seek to preserve and restore the functionality that can be compromised by the disease.
