30. Delta Bonneted Bat Eumops delticus French: Eumope du delta / German: Delta-Bulldogfledermaus / Spanish: Eumops del delta Other common names: Marajo Island Bonneted Bat Taxonomy. Eumops delticus Thomas, 1923, “Caldeirao,” Ilha Marajo, Para, Brazil. Eumops delticus was previously considered a subspecies of E. bonariensis but separated based on morphological differences and allopatry. Monotypic. Distribution. Known from scattered localities in S Colombia (Caqueta Department), NE Peru (Loreto Department), and N & E Brazil (Amapa, Para, Bahia, and Minas Gerais states). Descriptive notes. Head-body 65-72 mm, tail 34-45 mm, ear 19-22 mm, hindfoot 9-10 mm, forearm 45-48 mm; weight 15 g (one specimen). See general characteristics of the genus under the Black Bonneted Bat (LE. auripendulus). Pelage of the Delta Bonneted Bat is dark brown on back and paler on venter. Compared with the Common Dwarf Bonneted Bat (FE. bonariensis), it has shorter, narrower skull; longer ears; and larger basisphenoid pits. Habitat. Lowland Amazonian rainforests and savannas and near human habitation. Food and Feeding. The Delta Bonneted Bat is an aerial insectivore. Breeding. A pregnant Delta Bonneted Bat was documented in October in north-eastern Peru. Activity patterns. No information. Movements, Home range and Social organization. No information.
