Abstract

Daltonia hookeriana U.B.Deshmukh, S.Majumdar & B.C.Ho nom. nov. Basionym: Mniadelphus heterophyllus Wilson ex Mitt., J. Proc. Linn. Soc., Bot., Suppl. 1(2): 144. 1859 (Mitten 1859). ≡ Distichophyllum heterophyllum (Wilson ex Mitt.) Paris, Actes Soc. Linn. Bordeaux 49(2): 65. 1895 (Paris 1895). ≡ Daltonia heterophylla (Wilson ex Mitt.) B.C.Ho & L.Pokorny, Bot. J. Linn. Soc. 170(2): 172. 2012, nom. illeg., non Daltonia heterophylla (Brid.) Arn., Disp. Méth. Mousses 55 (Arnott, 1825). Type:— NEPAL, Nangli [‘Sikkim’], 10,000 ft., J.D. Hooker 690 (holotype: NY! [barcode 1185189]; isotype: L! [barcode 0835784]). [Details and discussion on the type are provided in Ho et al. (2012: 172); duplicate in BM excluded] Etymology: Named after the type collector Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker (1817–1911), a British botanist and explorer, who served as the second director of the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew, succeeding his father, William Jackson Hooker. Distribution: Nepal (type) and China (Yunnan: D.G. Long 33796 (E!) [sample used for analysis in Ho et al. 2012)]. Sikkim is excluded, see label of the type (Fig. 1) and discussion in Ho et al. (2012: 172)
