Abstract

Im Zentrum des Dissertationsprojekts steht die methodenkritische Untersuchung der Adaptierbarkeit etablierter Textanalysemethoden der Digital Humanities und Computerwissenschaften für historische Quellen und Forschungsfragen. Methoden wie beispielsweise Topic Modeling stammen in der Regel aus fachfremden Disziplinen mit je eigenen theoretisch-methodologischen Annahmen und Erkenntnisinteressen; sie sind daher nicht ohne Weiteres auf geschichtswissenschaftliche Anwendungsfälle übertragbar. Um sie produktiv in den "Werkzeugkasten" der Historiker:innen zu integrieren, ist es notwendig, diese Verfahren und Techniken hinsichtlich der in sie eingeflossenen Annahmen einzuordnen, kritisch zu reflektieren und gegebenenfalls entsprechend des Erkenntnisziels anzupassen, hierbei sind insbesondere die Erkenntnisgrenzen für historische Forschungsvorhaben zu dokumentieren. Konkret heißt das, eine Art Fragenkatalog für die methodenkritische Evaluation zu entwickeln, auf dessen Grundlage sich bewerten lässt, ob und in welchem Maße ein entsprechendes Verfahren für die besonderen Charakteristika historischer Fragestellungen und Daten geeignet ist. Der Vortrag stellt am Beispiel von Topic Modeling die Ziele, Fragestellungen und Herangehensweise des Dissertationsprojekts vor. Ein Beitrag zur 8. Tagung des Verbands "Digital Humanities im deutschsprachigen Raum" - DHd 2022 Kulturen des digitalen Gedächtnisses.
