India east to Philippines and New Guinea, north to South China Sea. Benthic on sand and mud bottoms of the continental shelf, entering estuaries and lower reaches of rivers and streams, 1– 140 m. Freshwater, transitional water and marine. Symphurus bathyspilus Krabbenhoft & Munroe, 2003 —Deepwater tonguesole STATUS AT MADANG. New record from Madang, based on a specimen collected by W.-J. Chen, St. CP 3964. NTUM material (NTUM 10072). DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Eastern Indonesia east to Philippines and New Guinea. Benthic on soft bottoms, 248– 500 m. Marine.
