Pour qu'on ne se débarrasse pas des hommes : entre art et sciences, l'ingénieur face à l'ambivalence du sujet

Abstract

Notre relation aux machines automatiques se soutient d’une tension originelle entre, d’une part, des promesses de liberté héritées du projet libéral initial et, d’autre part, une protocolisation généralisée des formes d’existence, une normalisation technique visant à contrôler les actions des hommes par la standardisation. Outre que ce rapport particulier à l’automate exige une adaptation permanente de la part du sujet et peut être source d’une immense souffrance, c’est également l’autonomie du sujet dans son rapport à l’objet intelligent qui est ici en jeu ; et en filigrane, une organisation de la Cité susceptible d’empêcher l’avènement d’un totalitarisme des automates face à la fragile singularité de chaque existence. Il s’avère ainsi que l’individu renonce à sa liberté, sa singularité et sa responsabilité au profit d’automatismes qui décident à sa place. Ce sont eux qui désormais semblent pouvoir endosser la cause symbolique factorisant l’ensemble des angoisses du sujet, et c’est ici que se joue probablement l’ambivalence du sujet dans son rapport aux objets intelligents. Si la responsabilité de l’ingénieur n’est ici pas anodine, l’artiste aussi, en particulier dans l’interaction art et sciences, peut s’emparer de cette tension originelle pour faire place à l’ambivalence du sujet, redonnant sa place à l’excitation du vivant et à l’étrangeté.
