Distribution: Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, and Argentina (Martínez & Halffter 1986a; including the type locality of C. orbiculatum). Choeridium orbiculatum Lucas, 1859: 103 (synonymized with C. cupreum by Gillet 1911: 55). Type material: Peru: Loreto: Ucayali: Sarayacu (“mission de Sarayacu”). Type material: Location of syntypes unknown. Canthidium aureolum Harold, 1867: 83 [synonymized with C. orbiculatum Lucas, 1859 by Harold 1869b: 57]. Type locality: Brazil: the Amazon region (“Die brasilianische, auch in dem Gebiete des Amazonenstromes von Bates gesammelte Art [...]”). Type material: Location of syntypes unknown (possibly at MNHN—ex Harold collection).
