See Schileyko (2014: 154), Schileyko & Stoev (2016: 250). Ecology in Martinique. This species (Fig. 36) is found in the humid areas being mainly collected in the rain forests, but some specimens are observed in certain high-altitude cultivated environments such as banana plantations. Range (after Le, Schileyko & Nguyen 2023: 432, improved). North America: Mexico; Central America: Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala to Panama; Greater Antilles: Puerto Rico, Haiti (Dominican Republic), Lesser Antilles: Martinique, Saint Vincent and Grenadines, Trinidad; South America: Venezuela (States: Aragua, Miranda, Zulia), Colombia (Pacific, Andean and Amazonian Regions), Ecuador, Peru, Brazil. South East Asia and Australasia: Nicobar Island, Vietnam, Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia (Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi, Maluku Islands, West Papua Province), Papua New Guinea, Fiji Islands. Remarks. The present data indicate a high-altitude distribution of S. melanostoma, since the overwhelming majority of our specimens were collected above 550 m; however Chagas-Jr et al. (2014) recorded for the Colombian population of this species a very wide altitudinal range (from 60 to 2760 m).
