EL USO DE DISONANCIAS EN LA OBRA DE FLAUSINO VALLE (1894-1954) Y SUS INTERPRETACIONES

Abstract

In this article I propose an analysis of the use of dissonances in specific Preludes of the set of ’26 Prelúdios Característicos e Concertantes para Violino Só’ (‘26 Characteristic and Concerting Preludes for Violin Alone’) by the Brazilian composer Flausino Valle (1894-1954). The dissonances appear in Preludes that refer mainly to themes of the composer's personal feelings and they open discussions for interpretative and performance possibilities - namely Requiescat in Pace, Marcha Fúnebre (Funeral March), Prelúdio da Vitória (Victory Prelude) and Doce Momento. These are dissonances that are emphasized by their musical context. From the search for understanding Valle's intentions through historical and social contextualization, study of extra musical sources, the understanding of reflective artistic practice as a laboratory of experiences (instrumental study) and from reflections proposed by López-Cano (2020) we seek ways to highlight dissonances within a sought-after interpretation (in progress). As a conclusion, I observe the possibilities of choices and decision-making needs in the construction of interpretation resulting from artistic research.
