Based on the alternation between training periods in vocational school and in companies, the Swiss dual vocational education and training (VET) system plays a key role in the professional socialization of young people. This contribution focuses on the agents and on specific objects of this process, soft skills. For this purpose, it relies on a research project concerning central, but little studied, actors of the dual VET system, on-the-job trainers. It looks for a better understanding of the place they confer to soft skills and of the issues that follow. The content analysis of interviews conducted with trainers emphasizes the omnipresence of soft skills, not only as objects of socialization, but also as selection criteria in the recruitment process of apprentices. It raises the question of social inequalities reproduction, these skills being strongly attached to young people previous socialization, and thus socially marked.
