Le présent article propose de revenir sur les nombreuses illusions entourant la formation professionnelle par apprentissage, ou ses mirages (Gilles Moreau). L’apprentissage, auréolé d’un passé soi-disant glorieux (le compagnonnage), serait un tout cohérent et accessible au plus grand nombre, permettant de résoudre tous les enjeux d’insertion des jeunes. La réalité est plus complexe, et son appréhension sera faite au travers de l’analyse de deux campagnes d’affichage, l’une en France sur l’apprentissage en entreprise (Arnaud Pierrel), l’autre en Suisse sur la formation professionnelle supérieure (Nadia Lamamra & Barbara Duc). L’article dans son ensemble permet de souligner la manière dont l’apprentissage se met (ou est mis) en scène afin de valoriser la voie professionnelle.
