Abstract

La religión ha cobrado un interés social innegable en los últimos tiempos. Cada vez son más las preguntas que nos hacemos sobre el presente y el futuro que incluyen argumentos religiosos. El punto de vista que dirige esta monografía es que el pasado puede ser de gran ayuda para explicar el papel de las religiones en el presente; para lanzar, asimismo, una mirada hacia las perspectivas de futuro y reflexionar sobre el impacto de las creencias en nuestro mundo global, así como las claves de su perdurabilidad y transformaciones. Esta reflexión se ordena en torno a cinco grandes ejes temáticos -la violencia, el poder, la identidad, la muerte y el miedo- y a cómo éstos se combinan con la religión, tanto en nuestro presente como en el pasado, comparativa y diferencialmente. Mas para entender las posibilidades y retos de este tipo de análisis que ofrece la historia de las religiones, resulta también necesaria una reflexión metodológica, que configura el capítulo final de un libro cuya intención última es ofrecer argumentos que ayuden a hacer comprensible la religión hoy, tanto en sus facetas colectivas como individuales.
