Typus: M ADAGASCAR. Prov. Antsiranana: massif de l’Andringitra, vers 2000 m, 27.XI-8.XII.1924, Humbert 3717 (holo-: P [P00466617]!), syn. nov. Note. – D’après le protologue basé sur l’observation de trois récoltes, la couleur rouge de la tige principale et les strobiles peu ramifiés - le plus souvent 2 fois bifurqués - différencient H. rubrica de H. ophioglossoides. Les observations sur le terrain et en herbier d’un nombre plus conséquent de spécimens ont montré que la couleur des axes est variable du rouge clair au brun; les axes d’un même individu pouvant être rouges à la base et bruns au-dessus. Les strobiles sont 1 à 4 fois bifurqués; le nombre de bifurcations est indépendant de la couleur rouge ou brune des axes. En conséquence, il n’y a pas lieu de séparer ces deux taxons.
