Pierinae: Colotis group Klots (1933) tentatively divided the predominantly Afrotropical genus Colotis Hübner into four subgenera (Colotis, Teracolus Swainson, Madais Swinhoe, Calopieris Aurivillius), but noted that the genitalia among the first three showed no tangible characters. Ackery et al. (1995) subsequently discarded Teracolus, but treated Calopieris (not studied by Klots) as a distinct monotypic genus (with type species eulimene Klug). Henning et al. (1997) created a new subgenus, Cuneacolotis G.A. Henning & S.F. Henning & Joannou & Woodhall, for Colotis agoye (Wallengren) but, since the authors noted that the taxon shares characters between Colotis and Teracolus, its status is highly questionable and it should be discarded. Stoneham (1957) divided the Afrotropical genera Eronia Hübner and Nepheronia Butler and proposed two new monotypic genera: Afrodryas Stoneham (with type species leda Boisduval) and Lepteronia Stoneham (with type species pharis Boisduval). These proposals have not been accepted by recent authorities (e.g. Larsen 1991; Ackery et al. 1995).
