Oedemaperla

Authors: Mynott, Julia H; Suter, Phillip J; Theischinger, Gunther;
Abstract

Oedemaperla sp. NQLD3 (Fig. 35 AD) Larva. Remarks. Part of a genetic grouping of three species with two species identified as O. cardaleae. Two groups contained larvae (O. shackletoni and O. sp NQLD 3) which were morphologically distinct and are here regarded as two different species. Without confirmed associations of the adult material and larvae it is unclear if this species is the larva of O. cardaleae or an undescribed species. Specimens deposited in ANIC Material examined: Queensland: 2 x larvae: Papina Falls, Middlebrook Creek, Millaa-Millaa Ravenshoe Road. -17.56978, 145.60903. Collected: 10-May-11, Collectors: M Shackleton & J Mynott, Accession numbers: JMH1370, JMH1371. 1 x larva: Davies Creek at Davies Creek Falls. -17.00987, 145.58239. Collected: 5-May-11, Collectors: M. Shackleton & J. Mynott, Accession number: JMH1372. 1 x adult male: Millaa Millaa Falls, Atherton Tablelands below waterfall. -17.49501, 145.61051. Collected: 13-May-10, Collectors: J. Webb & M. Shackleton, Accession number: JMH1104. Length: 4.5 mm, 4.3 mm Colour: Light brown Body: Robust thorax, long thin legs. Head: Dorsal surface covered in globular tear-shaped setae. Antennae longer than body. Antennal segments elongate near tips and become very long and thin; first 2022 segments with long robust setae present on margin. Thorax: Pronotum quadrate, posterior corners produced slightly in some specimens, anterior corners widely rounded. Meso- and meta-nota with pale bosses at base of wingpads, extending posteriorly into sunken dark patches. All thoracic segments with globular tear-shaped setae on surface. Anterior margin of pronotum, hind margin of meso- and meta-nota with sickle-shaped setae. Legs: Tibiae with fringe of long fine setae. Femora with robust setae on outer margin and inner margin; outer surface has a central stripe of globular tear-shaped setae; distal margin produced in upper corner, robust setae present on margin; inner surface also with stripes of robust setae present. Tibiae triangular; all margins with long robust setae; proximal area darkened. Abdomen: Tergites surface and hind margin with similar robust setae as nota. Tergite X with similar setae to other segments, broader on hind margin; white patches in posterior area darkening near hind margin; hind margin produced to a small rounded knob (in males). Purplish gills. Cerci shorter than abdomen; becoming very long and thin. Cercal segments elongated by 78 segment; long robust setae on margins of cercal segments until 10th. Paraprocts length approximately same as basal width.
