Abstract

Al igual que, all�� por el siglo VI aC donde se dieron los inicios del pensamiento racional, en los siglos XV y XVI, la filosof��a y la ciencia compart��an intereses tales que, muchas veces, aparec��an entrelazados. En los albores del pensamiento racional y argumentativo, la ciencia y la filosof��a nacieron juntas y con un mismo af��n de conocer al mundo circundante de una manera otra a c��mo hab��a sido apresada mediante el mito. O eso es lo que se��ala la tradici��n. Sea como sea la relaci��n entre raz��n y mito, lo cierto es que Arist��teles llam�� a los primeros fil��sofos, a los presocr��ticos, los ���f��sicos���. Sin embargo, si bien en el nacimiento de la cultura occidental era la filosof��a o, m��s bien, las preguntas filos��ficas eran los elementos que echaban a andar a la investigaci��n cient��fica, lo cierto es que en los siglos que sucedieron a la Edad Media, la filosof��a, tanto la de corte nominalista en el ��ltimo siglo medieval, el XIV, como la ya propiamente renacentista, denotaba un claro af��n por parecerse a la ciencia. Y, como sabemos, la ciencia es ciencia cuando sus objetos son cuantificados o, de manera general, matematizados. De esta manera, es f��cil deducir que la matem��tica fue el troquel que configur�� la manera de conocer y de acercarse al mundo post-medieval que, nada m��s y nada menos, tuvo como remate una revoluci��n, la denominada revoluci��n cient��fica, a partir de la cual ya nada fue igual. Este trabajo, pues, lo que pretende es ofrecer algunas claves hist��ricas y filos��ficas que ayudan a entender c��mo el mundo dej�� de ser un misterio en tanto cualitativo a un conjunto de fen��menos que solo al matematizarse lograban el estatus de objetos dignos de conocimiento.
