Type loc.: Philippine Islands; two syntypes in NHM (NHMUK 1968717), Salvador pers. comm. (xi/2014). Turbo turcicus [sic]—Reeve, 1849: 228. Turbo somnueki Patamakanthin, 2001: 193, pls. 1, 2. Type loc.: between Phromthep Cape, Phuket Island and Bon Island, Thailand, Andaman Sea; holotype in PMBC (15759). Turbo (Marmarostoma?) tursicus — Alf & Kreipl, 2003: 41, pl. 54. Turbo (Marmarostoma) sp. 4— Alf & Kreipl, 2003: 42, pl. 56, figs 2–4. Turbinidae sp. 3399— Jay, 2014. Turbinidae sp. 3762— Jay, 2014. Distribution. Indo-West Pacific south to central Zululand (off St Lucia); local material 50–110 m (living 50–80 m). Notes. Western Indian Ocean specimens are smaller than those from the central Indo-West Pacific, and they have scales rather than hollow spines on the two peripheral cords. Subgenus Sarmaticus Gray, 1847. Type species (o.d.): Turbo sarmaticus Linnaeus, 1758.
