Abstract

Ophiocomella valenciae (Müller & Troschel, 1842) Ophiocoma valenciae Müller & Troschel, 1842: 102. Ophiocomella valenciae — O’Hara et al. 2019: 73–74, figs. 3, 6. Habitat: Substrate not recorded, 3–4 m (Mortensen 1940). Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman: Kish Island (7) (ibid.). Indian Ocean: East Africa to South Africa (Ljungman 1867), Mozambique (Ludwig 1899), West Indian Ocean, Mascarene Basin and Red Sea (Clark & Rowe 1971), South Africa (Clark & Courtman-Stock 1976; Olbers et al. 2019), Madagascar (Cherbonnier & Guille 1978), Kenya (Humphreys 1981), Seychelles (Clark 1984), Scattered Isl. (Conand et al. 2016). Remarks: Ophiocomella valenciae has the same number of spines (up to 6) at each arm joint and a lighter variegated brown color pattern than O. scolopendrina.
