Античный Херсонес — византийский Херсон является уникальным памятником археологии. Его изучение позволяет проследить процесс трансформации античного полиса в средневековый город. Нас интересует Восточная площадь Херсонеса—Херсона. В течение всей истории поселения она имела культовое значение. В кон. IV—III вв. до н.э. здесь сформировался религиозный центр. Он состоял из двух храмов и был связан с почитанием местного божества Девы—Парфенос. В кон. IV в. н.э., после победы христианства, на этом месте возник христианский комплекс. Его центром была церковь — базилика св. ап. Петра. К ней были пристроены часовня и баптистерий. Позже на площади было сооружено еще несколько малых церквей. Культовый комплекс просуществовал до гибели города. / The antique Chersonese — Byzantine Cherson is unique archeological monument. The study of this city allows tracking the process of transformation the antique polis to medieval city. The eastern square of Chersonese—Cherson on during the entire its history had a cult significance. At the end of IV—III centuries BCE here was formed a complex associated with the veneration of the Deva Parthenos. After the victory of Christianity, at the end of the IV century CE here was formed a Christian complex. Its center was the church — the basilica of St. Peter. To it they were added to the chapel and baptistery. Later, several small churches were built on the square. Cult complex lasted until the death of the city.
