Abstract

I cambiamenti moderni del mondo pongono la Chiesa davanti a un’alternativa fondamentale, che in termini un po’ paradossali puo essere cost formulata: la Chiesa deve e vuole rassegnarsi alla progressiva perdita di importanza del cristianesimo nell’odierna opinione pubblica e amministrare solo i rimasugli di una chiesa di popolo, oppure essa e convinta del fatto che il vangelo, che le e stato affidato, e talmente vitale da saper rispondere alle piu intime aspettative della gente di oggi, rendendola di nuovo salvata e trasformata nell’amore eterno di un Dio da tanto dimenticato e in molti casi completamente sconosciuto? La Chiesa non puo piu continuare a pressuporre che le persone gia sappiano che cosa significa essere cristiani. Nelle societa occidentali non possiamo piu chiudere gli occhi di fronte alle sfide di una situazione missionaria: bisogna predicare francamente il kerigma del Cristo morto e risorto e tornar a riscoprire il genio pastorale dell’iniziazione cristiana. La nuova evangelizzazione in primo luogo deve assumere la forma del catecumenato in cui la Chiesa si presenta come comunita viva e luogo di un nuovo stile di vita, come un processo d’iniziazione alla vita con Dio vivo. Il porsi al servizio dell’evangelizzazione di questo mondo pressuppone l’autoevangelizzazione della Chiesa e del singolo cristiano. Infatti, come dice il papa Benedetto XVI, una gran parte dei cristiani si trova oggi „nello stato del catecumenato” e quindi „dobbiamo finalmente prendere in modo serio questo fatto nella pastorale”.
