Myoxanthus montanus Ortiz 1997

Abstract

30. Myoxanthus montanus Ortiz (1997: 320). (Fig.15I) TYPE:— COLOMBIA. Cundinamarca: Guayabetal, “Monterredondo”, 1750 m, Aug 1977, Ortiz 937 (holotype: HPUJ!). Distribution: — Colombia. Notes:— The proliferous habit of this species is similar to M. frutex and M. gyas, but M. montanus differs by bearing congested white flowers with a pubescent floral bract covering the base of the perianth and lateral sepals connate to near the middle. 31. Myoxanthus neillii Luer & Dodson (1992: 62) TYPE:— ECUADOR. Napo: near Coca, 200 m, epiphytic in large fallen tree, collected by D. Neill, flowered in cultivation at the Río Palenque Science Center, 3 Oct 1986, Dodson 16621 (holotype: MO, not located, lectotype, here designated, illustration of the holotype in Luer (1992: pl. 25). Distribution: — Ecuador and Peru. Notes:— This species is similar to M. affinis and M. parahybunensis, but M. neillii is distinguished from these by its small flowers with sepals only 4–5 mm long, oblong petals not narrowed above the middle and column with teeth at the apex. Since the holotype at MO was not located, a lectotype is designated here.
