Abstract

87. Theognete harbini Anderson, new species (Figures 292, 302, 311) Diagnosis. Size. Length, male, 2.81–3.09mm; female, 2.78–3.09mm. Width, male, 1.52–1.80mm; female, 1.57–1.69mm. Pronotum strongly cordate, inflated in male; punctures large and deep; scales sparse, simple, suberect and recurved. Procoxae widely separated. Elytra with scales sparse, erect, narrow, straight but slightly recurved at apex, not plumose; posteroloteral area with series of three large punctures. Aedeagus as in Fig. 302. Geographical distribution. México (Hidalgo). Natural history. Collected from berlese extraction of cloud forest leaf litter at elevations from 1375– 1525m. Derivation of specific name. Through his support of the Nature Discovery Fund at the Canadian Museum of Nature, this species is named after D. Vaughn Harbin of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, as a gift from Robert Ramsay. Material examined. 7♂, 3♀♀ (CMNC, CWOB). Holotype ♂ (CMNC): MÉXICO: Hidalgo. 2.4 mi. N.E. Tlanchinol, 4500', 14.VI.83, S. & J. Peck, cloud for. litter / HOLOTYPE ♂, Theognete harbini sp. nov., R.S. Anderson. Aedeagus extracted. Paratypes: MÉXICO. Hidalgo. Tlanchinol (2.4 mi. N.E.), 4500', 14.VI.83, S. & J. Peck, cloud for. litter (1♀ CMNC). Tlanchinol (2.7 mi. N. Hwy 105), 5000', 10.V.1983, C. W. & L O'Brien & G.B. Marshall, berlese sifted cloud forest litter (1♂ CWOB). 15.VI.1983, C. W. & L. O'Brien & G.B. Marshall, berlese sifted cloud forest litter (5♂, 2♀♀ CMNC, CWOB). Chorological relationships. Sympatric with T. hesmos, T. minuta, T. gracilis and T. caviventris.
