Family AEGERIDAE Burkenroad, 1963 EMENDED DIAGNOSIS BY TAVARES & MARTIN (2010). — Carapace lacking hepatic spine, but with postorbital spine. Rostrum with ventral tooth, dorsally unarmed. Third maxilliped hypertrophied. First pleomere somewhat reduced. REMARK The presence of a ventral tooth on the rostrum should not be characteristic, since, according to Schweigert et al. (2016), the type species Aeger tipularius Schlotheim, 1822 does not display one. The lack of a hepatic spine is not clear since Acanthochirana Strand, 1928 and some species of Aeger display one.
