La huelga de hambre como dispositivo performático de una muerte autoimpuesta

Abstract

Durante parte importante del siglo XX y lo que va del siglo XXI, las huelgas de hambre han ocupado un lugar central en las luchas políticas emprendidas por pueblos sometidos y grupos excluidos. Este trabajo analiza la huelga de hambre en tanto dispositivo performático que amplifica la sensación de opresión e injusticia mediante la promesa de causar la propia muerte si las demandas que impulsan la protesta no son atendidas. Se sostiene que la fuerza de esta acción, no radica en el daño que puede ocasionar a los enemigos, sino en su capacidad de arrebatar al Estado la violencia, de dirigirla contra el propio cuerpo y de escenificar el dolor autoinfligido. Se concluye a partir de la relación entre política, dolor y cuerpo en lo que se ha considerado como una de las formas de protesta más extrema y controversial. De este modo, se busca aportar algunas reflexiones que permitan una aproximación comprensiva a la instalación de este dispositivo en el actual contexto mundial, donde comienzan a extenderse las huelgas de hambre de migrantes, refugiados, presos políticos y activistas de grupos étnicos y medioambientales, como una forma de reivindicar la vida, aun cuando, para ello, deban poner en riesgo la propia existencia
