Records of Cucujus cinnaberinus in five areas: “Łęgi koło Słubic” nature reserve, Trzebnica Ridge, Widawa and Odra valleys near Wrocław, Chełm area, and “Rozumice” nature reserve are reported. Additional record in “Odertal FrankfurtLebus mit Pontischen Hängen” nature reserve in Germany, on the left bank of Odra, is reported. In the case of all the areas, old maps were used to analyse the history of forest during the last 200 years. In most cases, C. cinnaberinus occurs in forests that show ecological continuity during this period of time. The only exception is the vicinity of Słubice, where forests were either absent or only young, presumably floodplain forests were present in the areas where C. cinnaberinus occurs nowadays. It is concluded, that although C. cinnaberinus can inhabit secondary forests and poplar plantations, it still shows strong affinity to ancient forests.
