This paper presents some advances on research about the concept of musical image and its characteristics in the process of art work evolution. The study is based on the notion of the image as the significant core of musical language, devoid of vocabulary, however logically related to reality through symbols of different levels of abstraction. In this manner, the imaginative sphere stands out into a subject of independent analysis, which excludes direct connections between the musical material and its meaning in the level of content.
