Throughout Europe, higher education has been drastically reshaped by what is usually referred to as the Bologna process – named after Europe’s oldest university in Bologna, Italy, where the first meeting was held. Subsequently, based on the Bologna agreement and the Lissabon treaty a system for accreditation and quality assurance was established by all countries in the European higher education area (EHEA), containing the EU countries and some others.
