The presented preliminary study summarizes the available information and adds new data about the Carabidae and Pselaphinae (Insecta: Coleoptera) species composition in high altitude coniferous forests. The study of these beetle groups in endemic and relict Pinus peuce and Pinus heldreichii communities in Bulgaria was made for the first time. The results from the first period of the field expeditions in the forests with Pinus peuce and Pinus heldreichii communities, as well the literature data about both beetle groups in high altitude Picea abies communities in Bulgaria are shown. The species richness and endemism of Carabidae and Pselaphinae is commented.
