Knowledge Management rightly comes handy to the people in managing this all important wealth called ‘knowledge’. The emergence of the knowledge-based economy has highlighted the need for effective exploitation of knowledge, making knowledge management an essential area of activity in organizations. Knowledge management (KM) is a systematic process of taking advantage of intellectual capital and knowledge assets for organizational success. Knowledge Management is a multi-disciplinary venture. KM requires expertise in strategy development, business process design, change management as well as technology expertise. Meeting the global demands for KM, many Indian organizations have quickly braced the idea of KM and put it into functioning with different styles. An overview of these attempts gives us an idea that many organizations have taken voluntary initiatives, while some organizations were compelled to respond to the changing demands. The present paper attempts to discuss some of the Knowledge Management initiatives that are introduced by the Indian organizations. The paper throws light on some of the innovative and unique programmes and initiatives practiced by these organizations.
