Previous records in São Paulo include Ilhabela (Ilha de São Sebastião) (Mossolin & Mantelatto 2008). The species is found in freshwater drainages close to the coast. The phylogeny and taxonomy of the genus is complex, and a recent study elucidated this scenario (Souza-Carvalho & Mantelatto 2017). Sequences accession number (GenBank): CCDB 2672—16S (KF688003), COI (KF688055) (Souza-Carvalho & Mantelatto 2017).
