Full decision tree of aquaZone

Abstract

Compared to the simplified tree (Figure 9), the full tree (Figure S1) performs an additional separation of T7 based on geology, whereby only highly suitable geology (S=1) leads to a very high suitability (T7a), while areas with less suitable geology (S<1) are rated with high suitability (T7b). T6 is further split based on geology and agricultural unit, whereby only areas with a highly suitable geology (S=1; T6a) or areas with a less suitable geology (S<1) but listed as agricultural unit (S=1; T6b) achieve a high suitability, while area not listed as agricultural unit (S=0.75) are rated with medium suitability (T6c). Also, T12 experiences a further split into three terminal nodes based on agricultural unit and water temperature. Thereby, only areas listed as agricultural unit (S=1; T12a) or areas not listed as agricultural unit but with ideal water temperatures (S=1; T12b) achieve a high suitability while less suitable water temperatures (S<1) are rated with medium suitability (T12c). Furthermore, T11 is split in four terminal nodes, of which only one achieves a high suitability. This applies to cases with a highly suitable water temperature (S=1) and listed as agricultural unit (S=1; T11a). Areas not listed as agricultural unit (T11b) achieve a medium suitability. If the water temperature is not ideal (S≤0.75) and the site is located in a suitable fish region (S=1; T11b) a medium suitability is achieved, while an unsuitable fish region (S=0) causes the exclusion of related areas (T11c).

The figure shows the full decision tree of aquaZone, which includes eight out of 30 environmental criteria.
