Abstract Introduction Students have more frequent psychological problems compared to the general population of the same age, especially symptoms of anxiety and depression. Plutchik believes that psychopathological predispositions arise from emotions. Objective The aim of the study was to determine the characteristic profile on the Emotions Profile Index (EPI) test in students with diagnoses of anxiety disorders. Method The sample consists of 100 students aged 19 to 28 years with diagnoses of generalized anxiety disorder and mixed anxiety and depressive disorder. Test battery, including EPI, was applied individually. Results It was found that students with diagnoses of anxiety disorders are characterized by increases in incorporation (C=64) and reproduction (C=75), and decreases in rejection (C=35) and destruction (C=37). Mann-Whitney test showed a statistically significant difference for deprivation (p=0,022) which is lower, as well as for reproduction (p=0,011) which is higher in students with generalized anxiety disorder compared to students with mixed anxiety and depressive disorder. 12% of participants recorded a conflict between reproduction and deprivation. Concerning other dyads, we record anxiety, love and delight as dominant complex emotions. Discussion The profile of students with anxiety disorders is characterized by a pronounced acceptance of others, which may lead to suggestibility and dependent behaviour, and a lack of independence, determination and critical thinking is evident. There is a tendency to behave cordially and invest in relatoinships through empathy and social support, with conformism and lack of expansion and willingness to take action for their own needs. According to their EPI profiles, they are closer to the average population than to the population of psychiatric patients. Due to the often present dyad of protection-exploration, they are prone to anxiety. Conclusion Profile on the EPI test of students with anxiety disorders is characterized by increases in incorporation and reproduction, decreases in rejection and aggression, predominant absence of internal conflicts and dyad protection-research that results in anxiety.
