Cynara scolymus Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 827. 1753. "Habitat in G. Narbonensis, Italiae, Siciliae agris." RCN: 5988. Lectotype (Kupicha in Davis, Fl. Turkey 5: 329. 1975): Herb. Linn. No. 969.1 (LINN). Current name: Cynara scolymus L. (Asteraceae). Note: Although Davis (Fl. Turkey 1: 9. 1965; 10: 238. 1988) did not indicate this as a name typified in the Flora of Turkey, Kupicha (in Davis, l.c. 5: 329. 1975) explicitly indicated 969.1 (LINN) as the lectotype, adding "designated here". This typification is accepted here.
