Agrostis indica Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 63. 1753. "Habitat in India." RCN: 547. Lectotype (Baaijens & Veldkamp in Blumea 35: 422. 1991): Clayton 460b, Herb. Linn. No. 84.36 (LINN). Current name: Sporobolus indicus (L.) R. Br. (Poaceae). Note: Hitchcock (in Contr. U. S. Natl. Herb. 12: 120. 1908) designated 84.35 (LINN) as the type, but this is a Patrick Browne collection that was not acquired by Linnaeus until 1758, and so cannot be original material for the name. Parham (in Smith, Fl. Vitiensis Nova 1: 308. 1979) stated "Apparently a Sloane specimen from Jamaica is the principal basis of Linnaeus’ species" but Linnaeus did not study this material, and Parham’s statement in any case falls short of formal typification.
