Potentilla opaca Linnaeus, Systema Naturae, ed. 10, 2: 1064. 1759, nom. illeg. ["Habitat in Helvetia."] Cent. I Pl.: 13 (1755). RCN: 3788. Replaced synonym: Potentilla heptaphylla L. (1755). Type not designated. Original material: as replaced synonym. Current name: Potentilla heptaphylla L. (Rosaceae). Note: As noted by Nordenstam (in Bot. Not. 114: 277. 1961), P. opaca replaced P. heptaphylla L. (1755) in the reprint of the dissertation Cent. I Pl. in Amoen. Acad. 4: 274. 1759). Potentilla opaca was, in fact, first published earlier (May–Jun) in 1759 in Syst. Nat., ed. 10, 2: 1064, but it is in any case a replacement name for P. heptaphylla, and is illegitimate.
