Triticum aestivum Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 85. 1753, nom. cons. "Habitat - - - –” RCN: 718. Lectotype (Bowden in Canad. J. Bot. 37: 674. 1959): Herb. Clifford: 24, Triticum 3 (BM-000557670). Generitype of Triticum Linnaeus (vide Hitchcock in Amer. J. Bot. 10: 513. 1923). Current name: Triticum aestivum L. (Poaceae). Note: Triticum aestivum is conserved against T. hybernum L. (1753). Although the types of both names are listed in their Vienna Code entries (2006: 464), neither type is conserved. Hanelt & al. in Taxon 32: 492 (1983) provided a review of the typification of the name, and illustrated the type (as f. 1).
