Rumex patientia Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 333. 1753. "Habitat in Italia." RCN: 2577. Type not designated. Original material: [icon] in Dodoëns, Stirp. Hist. Pempt., ed. 2: 647, 648. 1616. Generitype of Rumex Linnaeus (vide Hitchcock, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 148. 1929). Current name: Rumex patientia L. (Polygonaceae). Note: López González (in Anales Jard. Bot. Madrid 44: 586. 1987) noted that 464.1 (LINN), treated as the type by Bhopal & Chaudhri (in Pakistan Syst. 1(2): 94. 1977), conflicts with Linnaeus’ protologue and lacks the relevant Species Plantarum number (i.e. “1”), making it a post-1753 addition to the herbarium, and not original material for the name.
