Onopordum arabicum Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 827. 1753. "Habitat in Lusitania, G. Narbonensi." RCN: 5986. Lectotype (López González in Jarvis & Turland in Taxon 47: 364. 1998): [icon] " Carduus tomentosus Acanthium dictus Arabicus " in Plukenet, Phytographia: t. 154, f. 5. 1692; Almag. Bot.: 85. 1696. Current name: Onopordum illyricum L. (Asteraceae). Note: As noted by authors such as Dress (in Baileya 14: 86. 1966) and González Sierra & al. (in Candollea 47: 190. 1992), this name included elements of both O. nervosum Boiss. and O. illyricum L. (1753). López González’s typification makes O. arabicum a synonym of the latter.
