The original description appeared in issue 9/10, dated 25 March 1919. For stability of nomenclature and following Article 74 (ICZN 1999) the female with identifier “NMNHS-INV-T-01055” is here designated as lectotype for Erebia tyndarus macedonica Buresch, 1919. The specimen was illustrated in the original publication by Buresch (1919: Taf. II: Fig. 10). Valid subspecies of Erebia neleus (Freyer, 1832) (Wiemers et al. 2018), endemic for the alpine part of Pirin Mountains, Bulgaria.
