Abstract

Resumen Introducción: Callistemon speciosus, ampliamente distribuido en la región de los Andes, es una planta medicinal usada comúnmente por sus propiedades antisépticas, expectorantes y broncodilatadoras. Objetivos: Identificar posibles metabolitos secundarios presentes en Callistemon speciosus y evaluar la actividad antimicrobiana in vitro del extracto etanólico (CSEE) frente a cepas de bacterias y hongos. Método: A partir de todas las partes de la planta seca, a excepción de la raíz, se preparó un extracto etanólico (CSEE) al cual se realizaron subextracciones usando etanol y cloroformo (1:1). Sucesivamente a través de cromatografía en capa fina y columna se separaron los metabolitos secundarios. Finalmente usando espectroscopia UV-Vis se determinó la absorción de cada fracción purificada. La actividad microbiológica de CSEE se realizó empleando el método Mitscher. Resultados: Siguiendo las reglas de Woodward y Fisher, se identificaron 3 estructuras: 7-metoxi-flavona, 7-hidroxi-flavona y miricetina. CSEE inhibió el crecimiento bacteriano en una concentración dependiente, así, a una concentración de 10000 µg/mL mostró actividad para S. aureus y C. albicans, y actividad parcial para E. coli, K. pneumoniae y P. aeruginosa. Mientras que a una concentración de 1000 µg/mL solo presentó actividad frente a C. albicans y S. aureus, Finalmente a una concentración de 100 µg/mL fue parcialmente activo para S. aureus. Conclusiones: Estos resultados proporcionan datos sobre la composición fitoquímica y la actividad antimicrobiana de CSEE. Sin embargo, son necesarios estudios complementarios usando técnicas más específicas para tener un perfil fitoquímico completo de la planta y confirmar su actividad antimicrobiana.
