Discutindo a toponímia portuguesa e autóctone em São Tomé e Príncipe

Abstract

Este artigo, a partir do referencial teórico de Dick (1980, 1990, 1998), Carvalhinhos (1998, 2009) e Tent (2015), tem como objetivo apresentar o perfil toponímico de São Tomé e Príncipe (STP) considerando aspectos como: (i) o contato linguístico, refletido em topônimos de matriz africana (ii) a estrutura do sintagma toponímico em língua portuguesa e/ou em outras línguas. Os topônimos são criados conforme a realidade geográfica, social, histórica e linguística de STP, sendo, por isso, locus da memória e da ecologia linguística santomense. Sua toponímia, assim, possui traços transdisciplinares e contribui para a compreensão dos diferentes estratos dialetais que estruturam a forma de expressão vernacular de STP, refletindo, inclusive, as conjunturas multilíngues sincrônicas e/ou diacrônicas circunscritas à área observada e a importância política atribuída à língua portuguesa em detrimento das demais línguas.
